“We were very pleased with the quality of work that was achieved in such a short amount of time. Our expectations were to have a few partners up and running by our incredibly tight deadline. This goal was surpassed and we were able to implement all our customers with an urgent need for EDI communications.”
Jeff Price

The Wella Corporation
The need for an SAP EDI solution
Wella is one of the world’s leading cosmetics suppliers. Founded in 1880, the company is represented in over 150 countries. With a vision of supporting its customer’s requirements in the Electronic Data Interchange arena, Wella realized that to support these requirements an in-house EDI solution was required.
Objectives of the Project
The objective was clearly to enable The Wella Corporation with the ability to handle Electronic Messaging with its partners without the use of external resources. Wella runs SAP as its ERP system and required skills to implement EDI in an SAP environment in a professional, timely and cost-efficient way.
The Decision
The Wella Corporation chose to purchase Sterling Commerce’s Gentran software as its EDI translation tool. In addition, The Wella Corporation decided on Synapptix Software to provide the necessary consulting time to implement the solution.
The Outcome
Electronic data interchange communication was established between The Wella Corporation and 11 of its trading partners in a short space of time. The Wella Corporation personnel are now supporting the production system in an able manner, with the help of quality documentation provided by the Synapptix Software EDI consultant who also administered the on-site training of the EDI coordinator functions.
Technically Speaking
Gentran v3.2 was installed and configured by the Synapptix consultant. In addition, Idoc development and configuration was completed, Gentran mapping, Wal-Mart WINS configuration and installation were all crucial to the success of the implementation.
